The DOS Improvement Series Volume I
(C) 1994 by J. Bickers
===================================
With no small measure of ambition (or perhaps cockiness), I present
to you a series aimed at removing the bulk from DOS, one command
at a time. The first volume contains five new DOS commands, designed
to complement and replace existing ones. They are:
COMPARE: Weighing in at less than one sixth the size of the DOS
COMP command, COMPARE scrutinizes two files, and gives
a detailed list of how many differences exist, and
where in the file they are located.
JD: JD is a speed-dialing list for your hard drive. Using
the accompanying JDEDIT program, you create a list
of ten frequently visited directory paths. Then, from
anywhere, typing JD plus the "quick dial" number takes
you straight there.
PAGE: Simply a better way to view a text file, PAGE takes up
half the space of the MORE command alone, and unlike
MORE, PAGE does not write to a temp file. PAGE
presents text files one screen at a time, neatly
formatted. After each page, you have the option to
continue or exit.
REMEMBER: Another two-command pair, REMEMBER makes a note of
where you are on the hard drive. Then, from anywhere,
even after rebooting, RECALL takes you back.
SWAP: Self explanatory, SWAP switches the contents of two
files.
If you received the file DOSIMPR1.ZIP, then you have the entire set.
Each utility, however, can also be found separately, under the
appropriate name.
DOS Improvement is shareware. If you find this product useful, a
registration fee of $10 is requested. Send to:
