  5. With no small measure of ambition (or perhaps cockiness), I present
  6. to you a series aimed at removing the bulk from DOS, one command
  7. at a time.  The first volume contains five new DOS commands, designed
  8. to complement and replace existing ones.  They are:
  9.  
  10. COMPARE:        Weighing in at less than one sixth the size of the DOS
  11.                 COMP command, COMPARE scrutinizes two files, and gives
  12.                 a detailed list of how many differences exist, and 
  13.                 where in the file they are located.
  14.  
  15. JD:             JD is a speed-dialing list for your hard drive.  Using
  16.                 the accompanying JDEDIT program, you create a list
  17.                 of ten frequently visited directory paths.  Then, from
  18.                 anywhere, typing JD plus the "quick dial" number takes
  19.                 you straight there.
  20.  
  21. PAGE:           Simply a better way to view a text file, PAGE takes up
  22.                 half the space of the MORE command alone, and unlike
  23.                 MORE, PAGE does not write to a temp file.  PAGE 
  24.                 presents text files one screen at a time, neatly
  25.                 formatted.  After each page, you have the option to
  26.                 continue or exit.

  28. REMEMBER:       Another two-command pair, REMEMBER makes a note of
  29.                 where you are on the hard drive.  Then, from anywhere,
  30.                 even after rebooting, RECALL takes you back.
  31.  
  32. SWAP:           Self explanatory, SWAP switches the contents of two
  33.                 files.
  34.  
  35. If you received the file DOSIMPR1.ZIP, then you have the entire set.
  36. Each utility, however, can also be found separately, under the
  37. appropriate name.
